Student Conduct Action Plan

The next few pages outline what happens if a student violates the Code.

Action Plans

When a student accepts responsibility, or is found in violation, an Action Plan is assigned. An Action Plan includes a combination of administrative sanctions and educational interventions intended to promote reflection and growth, repair any harm caused, and help the Respondent recommit to institutional values. A full list of potential Action Plan items can be found in the Code.

Activities that violate Penn State's code of conduct may affect your immigration status in the U.S.

See Global Programs' Maintenance of Status page for more information.

First time underage consumption or possession cases:

When a student has a first-time violation for underage consumption or possession, they may receive, an opt-in resolution, to include a required reflective meeting and an alcohol education program.

This adaptable resolution option may be offered, at the sole discretion of the Case Manager, for first-time alcohol or cannabis use or possession, and some other types of Prohibited Conduct. The Opt-in Resolution allows the Respondent to take active accountability for their decisions and complete a pre-determined Action Plan. Permitted that the Respondent completes the Action Plan as assigned, there is no formal student conduct action or finding of a violation.

First-time Excessive Consumption or DUI cases:

When a student has a first-time violation for excessive consumption or driving while impaired, they will, at minimum, be placed on conduct probation and will be required to complete an alcohol education program.
